Work With Me | Brave New Words

How I Work

You’re probably looking for a price tag. You won’t find it. Not because I’m dodging the topic of money. My services cost money. There, that’s out of the way.  But before I can give you a rate I need to know more about your project. And when you contact me, you’ll see I ask for some specifics so we can get to the subject of cost early on in our conversation.

What I can tell you here and now is that I offer:

COMPELLING HEADLINE: We’ll do this last.

ALL ABOUT YOUR AUDIENCE:

Snapshot of what they’re doing right now: Write the story of their pain points.

Now you’re going to talk about why they’re like this. The reason behind it all, this will give you validity for selling what you’re selling

Then, paint the picture of what they wish for.

Introducing: Editing

Tell them that editing is going to get them what they way.

Tell them why editing is so damn important to getting what they want.

Tell them why you’re their editor

Outline what they get:

Three types of editing

Tell them how each book is unique so overtime you work with someone, it’s unqiue.

<<Enquire>>

Give them examples of things you can edit:

Short novellas

Comic books

Your memoirs

Consultations

There is no charge for our first “getting to know you” talk — no matter how long.  I’d rather spend two hours hearing what you really want and need from our work together than have a distracted chat as you’re hearing an imaginary “ca-chingy” cash register sound in your head. In addition to the usual “back-and-forth” editors and clients do, we can also arrange for additional discussions as the need arises, charged by the hour. Again, no surprises.

“Never had I been able to translate one of my short novels from German into English for proper reading standards. Not only did Erica Freeman turn my crude English into literature, she also worked with a great deal of empathy and heart on my story—by far more than I could expect. Thank you again for that, Erica.”

Packages

After talking about your project and goals, I can create a package based on your needs. All this really means is that we agree on what kind of editing that’ll serve you best, how much time we’ll devote to working together, and cost. Need two hours of consultation time every month? We’d set up a schedule for a week, a month, even a year, which would most likely involve a whole lot of time to talk, brainstorm, whatever you need. You’ll know exactly what that cost is from the beginning, and the only way it will change is if your needs change. Everything’s included. Nothing hidden. No surprises.

Erica has been a client of mine for a number of years now, and I’ve watched her business grow in both scope and size—and I can’t recommend her highly enough. She has enormous intellect and insight, plus an eye for consistency and detail that would benefit a writer in any category—especially those who want to self-publish. She does everything from academic writing (did I mention she’s scary-smart?) to fiction and sci-fi (and a self-professed nerd).

Project-based Editing

Some projects need a relatively light touch, while others need a heavy dose of TLC. I’ll look at your manuscript, evaluate the level of work needed to reach your goal, and determine cost based primarily on word count and how intensive the editing process will be.

Manuscript Evaluations

For some writers, a manuscript evaluation is the perfect way to give perspective and make the next step in their process clearer. I do a very close read of your project and you’ll walk away with a written document laying out both its strengths and the areas that need more attention. Of course, I’ll be pleased to answer any questions you might have once you go over the evaluation.

“Ms. Freeman is detail oriented, personable, professional and a complete pleasure to work with. She’s very exacting in her work and can be relied upon to perform above expectations. I look forward to continuing our excellent working relationship.”
