I'm a copy editor and writer, and my goal is to remove any obstacles that obscure your message and prevent you from feeling fully confident about your writing.
Offering varied levels of editing and consultation, I tailor my editing to your audience, your industry, and your personal and professional hopes for your finished project.
Some of the reasons I love what I do are that I'm devoted to maintaining the integrity of my clients' writing and I’m passionate about their success — but the best thing about my work is hearing clients express they've reached their projects' completion feeling excitement and motivation instead of defeat. The second best thing is hearing that writers love the way their work has been respected, as well as enhanced in ways they couldn't have imagined.
If you are in need of copyediting services or just want to learn more about what professional editing can do for you, drop me a note. I'd love to hear from you.
To write is human, to edit is divine.

Sharon Ann (Shan) Holt
Lecturer at Penn State University, Abington campus
Erica, who was my student in her Masters program at Penn, has a powerful and inspiring mind. When a question catches her interest, and only worthwhile questions seem to, she digs in to inform herself through research, then argues for answers in clear, compelling language. In between the research and the argument is Erica's most striking talent -- she ponders her answer deeply, juggling evidence, values, potential impact, and something I can best describe as the meaning of life. So when she comes to a point of view, one can always trust that informed, ethical, and purposeful thought lie behind it. As a teacher, that usually meant that Erica was out ahead of every discussion, offering independent and articulate perspectives of her own that were nevertheless highly valued by her classmates. As her friend, her intellectual style makes her a continual inspiration to me to think better, look further ahead, and try for a better world through clear thinking.
Her commitment to the power of ideas, and of language to carry ideas, also makes her a superb editor. She never fails to respect her authors, but she also means to make sure they say things of consequence in persuasive ways. Her editing again and again brings the strongest parts of an essay/article to the fore.
She is also, I should note, a genial and humorous colleague, attentive to the needs of others and of her organization, and willing to go extra distance to meet them.
I would recommend Erica without reservation for any intellectual leadership, writing, or editing position.

Ms. Freeman is detailed oriented, personable, professional and a complete pleasure to work with. She's very exacting in her work and can be relied upon to perform above expectations. I look forward to continuing our excellent working relationship.
City Editor, Columnist at The Philadelphia Tribune
Erica Freeman is quite simply the best copy editor I have ever worked with.
Writer, Teacher, Organizer, Troublemaker
I've been working with Erica Freeman on two manuscripts for the last few months. She's an excellent copy editor in every respect. She does a fabulous job with line editing, correcting everything from grammatical errors and other infelicities to problematic sentence structure to sentences and paragraphs that may be grammatical but are still unclear. But does far more as well. She's also focused on the content of my work and, when I've needed it, she's given me great advice about the structure of my chapters and books and about how to present my ideas in a way that are more easily understood.
She stays in contact with me and is prompt in getting work back to me.
I very highly recommend her.
